Top Keynote How CEOs take the friction out of work with technology

And offers us opportunities to make a difference and revolutionize work through technology

To achieve this, I would like to focus on one lever:

Take the friction out of work through technology

Friction at work

Friction is like sand in the gears of your bike

It makes every hill seem bigger

And just a little sand can make the difference between getting up the hill or not

I call it friction when the work is unnecessarily hard

Friction points

Take a look at what some of these employees have to say about their experiences with technology and enterprise applications

If there was friction, this would be a really bad time for it

Because you as employees are really burnt out and have no patience left

-35% decrease in intent to stay

The reality is that the more friction you have in your organization, the worse your employees are

Employee performance and retention can drop by up to 35% when it comes to keeping them

Identify your points of friction

This is a good time to identify all the friction points in your organization and ruthlessly eliminate them

Applied Analytics

Use strategic technologies to optimize business processes

One technology that will help you do this is applied AI or analytics

Applied analytics is when AI analyzes data and the context of past decisions to make future decisions faster and more accurately

VDOT

Virginia’s Department of Transportation — they’re called VDOT — are a good example of reducing friction

They have made it their mission to eliminate dirty, dangerous or boring work, as they call it

VDOT’s model of employee qualification

After eliminating this low-value and demoralizing work, VDOT invested in digital skills that matter to its employees and the company

It doesn’t have to be a big bang

VDOT has simply eliminated small annoyances and invested in digital capabilities

Eliminate the work that is unnecessarily heavy

Let’s be clear:

It’s not about eliminating jobs

It’s about eliminating the work that absolutely no one wants to do

Take the friction out of work

Ask yourself where you can eliminate friction losses

This can give your employees new energy and motivate them to perform
